Black activist group ColorOfChange.org praises court decision vacating “Jena 6” conviction
Group will continue to press for all charges to be dropped
ColorOfChange.org applauded Louisiana’s 3rd circuit court of appeals’ decision to throw out the conviction of Mychal Bell, one of six black teenagers known as the “Jena 6.” “Today’s court decision vacating Mychal Bell’s conviction is a huge step towards justice in this case,” said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. “We will continue to press for all charges to be dropped on all of the young men who have become known as the Jena 6.”
More than 200,000 people have signed ColorOfChange.org’s online petition calling on District Attorney Reed Walters to drop the charges against the Jena 6, and have called on Governor Kathleen Blanco to intervene in the case. Thousands of ColorOfChange members are planning to attend a rally in Jena on September 20th. Also that day, ColorOfChange members across the country are participating in a national day of action, using the group’s website to organize small gatherings, distribute flyers about the case, and make phone calls to put pressure on Governor Blanco to intervene.

6 students attack one student, beat him until he’s unconscious, and leave him to die… gee, I wonder why the community is upset and wants these morons to be held responsible for their criminal actions.
Rather than blame the neighborhood… the school system… the police department… the entire world… the parents of Jena 6 should be embarrassed that they’ve raised a group of children that were capable of committing such a heinous crime against another human being.
By supporting these kids & raising money for their defense fund, you’re essentially condoning their violent actions. I’d imagine that if the story were different… 6 white students beating a black student unconscious… you’d be protesting to have those six punished for their crime (which they should be)
It’s also disgusting to see folks like the NAACP, Reverend Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson using the unfortunate event to steal a few minutes of the media spotlight. One of these days it would be nice to see these folks actually put their money where their mouth is… and help communities preempt violence, rather than show up after the fact to throw fuel on the fire.
At times it feels like the human race is hurtling down a freeway… no moral road map to guide us, and no one at the wheel.

Where did you get your wrong information? The so-called victim went to a party 3 hours after he was beaten. An unconcious almost left for dead person does not go out to party hours later. I also noticed that you did not mention anything about a noose being hung under a tree by white students after a black person set there. Also, that the white students received one day in-school suspension, and the black students were looking at being charged with attempted murder. You also did not mention that the blacks students were told by the law that they could be erased with a stroke of a pen. Why didn’t you mention those things? Where is the justice? We are looking for fair treatment. The punishment that they’re trying to give to the 6 black students are too harsh for the crime. Also, it would not have developed into a beaten if the matter was handle fairly to begin with. I also noticed that a lot of white folks have a problem with Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton, and the NAACP, because they are doing all they can to help seek justice , and fair treatment for everyone. Some of you just want us to accept anything you throw at us. We are not in the Jim Crow days. We are not going to be quiet, and let you all screw us. So get use to it. On another note, if you’ve had enough of BET stop looking at it. Nobody is forcing you to look at it. DUH!!!!
